
Yogurt company Yoplait has reached one million fans on Facebook in just a two year time frame, according to an article on yesterday’s MediaPost News. General Mills’ owned Yoplait believes it has attained this digital media milestone by moving away completely from the use of paid media and “talking at fans, about product attributes and launches” to a more natural and conversational social media approach.
Yoplait last month became the first General Mills’ product line to get a dedicated social media manager. Yoplait Sara (aka Sara Fryer) told MediaPost that Yoplait directed her to be the fans’ “girlfriend” and creatively find ways to “share the kinds of things I would share with my friends.” Among other things, Fryer has shared photos of her family in Minnesota (sometimes with references to Yoplait) and posted recipes she’s tested out herself.
